Using Trusted Shops with Opencart

Add & install Plugin

To start, download the free Trusted Shops Extension in the Opencart Marketplace here. To do this, first use the link above to open the Marketplace. Then click on the green "Download" button.

In order to download the extension, you must log in to the Opencart Marketplace with your access data or register if you have not used the Marketplace before. After your registration you will be led to a list with several Trusted Shops extensions.

To choose the right extension for your shop from this list, you have to check which Opencart version you are using.

To find out which version of Opencart you are using, you first have to log into your Opencart backend. This opens your dashboard. Scroll to the bottom of the page within this overview. The version you are using is displayed there.

You also need to know whether you are using Opencart with or without a journal theme. If you are using the Journal Theme, please select the extension with the suffix "Journal Theme" that matches your Opencart version. Otherwise the compatibility is not given.

In order to use our Trusted Shops Extension, vQmod is required. Instructions for the installation of vQmod and the download link can be found here.

After downloading the extension, open your Opencart backend. In the main navigation you will find the menu item "Extensions". After clicking on this menu item a menu tree opens. Click on "Installer".

In the installer you now have to upload the previously downloaded Trusted Shops Extension. First click on the blue "Upload" button under "Upload your extensions”. Then select the extension in the window that opens and upload it.

As soon as the extension has been uploaded successfully, you will receive the message "Setting processed successfully".

Then go back to the dashboard of your Opencart backend. Click on the menu item "Extensions" again. In the menu tree that opens, select the menu item also named "Extensions".

In the overview that now opens, you will find a drop-down menu under "Choose the extension type". Select the menu item "Modules" in this menu.

A list will then open. In this list you will find the "Trusted Shops Reviews Toolkit" at the top. Click on the green button with the "+", which is located at the right edge of the display. With this you install the extension.

As soon as the plugin has been installed, you will receive the message “Data successfully processed". To complete the installation, you must now update the cache. To do this, click on the menu item "Extensions" in the main navigation of your Opencart backend again. Then select the menu item “Modifications" in the menu tree that opens. In the overview that now opens, you will find a light blue button at the top right-hand edge, on which two arrows can be seen. Click on it to update the cache.

You have now successfully installed the Trusted Shops extension.

Configuration

The Trusted Shops plugin was successfully installed in the previous step. In the following we will show you how to display the Trustbadge® in your online shop and how to configure it according to your individual wishes.

Show Trustbadge, integrate Buyer Protection & collect shop reviews

The unique Trustbadge® technology makes it so simple to collect, manage and display your customer reviews in your shop. You can also easily integrate your trustmark and offer the Buyer Protection.

To activate the Trustbadge, you must first open the Trusted Shops plugin in your Opencart backend. Therefore, first click on "Extensions" in the main navigation. A menu tree will then open, in which you click on the menu item "Extensions" again. After the overview of your extensions has opened, select the menu item "Modules" from the drop-down menu below “Choose the extension type". Then click on the dark blue button with a pencil next to the "Trusted Shops Reviews Toolkit".

To display the Trustbadge in your shop, enter your individual Trusted Shops ID into the input field in the plugin.

You can find your Trusted Shops ID in your dashboard in the My Trusted Shops backend. To do this, first log in to My Trusted Shops here. After logging in, you will be taken directly to the dashboard. In the right column of the dashboard, your shops which are registered with Trusted Shops are listed, with their respective Trusted Shops ID.

After entering the ID, set the status to “Enabled" to activate the Trustbadge.

In the section "Trustbadge" you can adapt it to your requirements. Under "Variant" you can select whether the Trustbadge should be displayed with or without star ratings.

If you want to temporarily deactivate the Trustbadge, select "Hide Trustbadge"

By default, the Trustbadge is displayed in the lower right corner of the shop. By entering a number of pixels in the "Y-offset" field, you can move the Trustbadge upwards at the right edge of the screen. Click on "Save" to implement the adjustments. 

Once you have completed these steps, you can now test the function of your Trustbadge. To do this, place a test order in your shop. When the Trustcard (“Buyer Protection Card") appears at the end of your order, you have integrated the Trustbadge into your shop and the Buyer Protection is active.

Show Shop Review Sticker with rating comments

In order to display the collected shop reviews prominently in your shop, you can also include the Trusted Shops "Shop Review Sticker".

If you are not already in the edit mode of the Trusted Shops plugin, first click on the dark blue button with the stylised pencil, which you will find in the module overview. Here we explain how to get to the module overview within your Opencart backend.

Within the plugin overview, scroll down to the "Shop Reviews" section. Activate the Shop Review Sticker by clicking the status "Yes" in the drop-down menu "Display Shop Review Sticker".

The Review Sticker is now displayed in the sidebar on the category page of your online shop:

What if my category page doesn't have a sidebar? Then please use our expert mode and assign the corresponding element from your shop in which you want the Shop Review Sticker to be displayed.

As soon as you have activated the Shop Review Sticker in the plugin, a menu opens in which you can adjust the display of the Shop Review Sticker.

Select the desired font in the menu and indicate how many review comments you would like to display in rotation. Up to five reviews are possible. On top of that you can choose the minimum level of the star ratings which you would like to be displayed (from 1 for "very poor" to 5 for "excellent").

You can also adapt the background colour of the Shop Review Sticker to the design of your shop. Enter the corresponding hexadecimal value. To complete your changes, click "Save".

Collect and display Product Reviews

To collect and display not only shop but also product reviews, you have to activate the option in the Trusted Shops extension. If you are not already in the editing mode of the Trusted Shops plugin, you must first click on the dark blue button with the stylised pen which you will find in the module overview. Here we explain how to get to the module overview within your Opencart backend.

Within the plugin overview, scroll down to the "Product Reviews" section. Select the status "Yes" in the drop-down menu "Collect Product Reviews".

Then the sections "Product reviews in the shop" and "Product Review Stars" open.

Product reviews

With the help of the section "Product reviews in the shop" you have the possibility to include the collected customer reviews of a product via an additional tab on the product page.

To do so, activate "Show Product Reviews on the Product Detail page on additional tab "Trusted Shops Reviews"" by selecting the status "Yes" in the drop-down menu.

If you have activated the integration on the product pages, you can configure the display according to your requirements in the next step:

Under "Name of Product Reviews Tabs" you can choose under what name the tab will be displayed under on the product pages (e.g. "That's what our customers say". In addition, you have the option of adapting the colours of the frame, the background and the star ratings to your shop design. To do this, enter the corresponding hexadecimal code of the desired colour directly into the input field. You can also adjust the size of the stars displayed (in px).

Product Star Ratings

Within the section "Product Review Stars" you have the possibility to to display the corresponding star ratings on the product page under the name of the product.

To do this, activate the option “Show Star ratings on Product Detail page below your Product Name" by selecting the status "Yes" in the drop-down menu.

Now you have the possibility to configure the display of the star ratings for product reviews according to your wishes.

If you activate the "Hide empty Star Ratings" option, the star ratings will only be displayed if there is at least one review for the corresponding product. If the field is not activated, stars are greyed out until the first review is received.

You can also individually set the colour and size (in px) of the star ratings as well as the font size.

Configure multi-shops with multiple Trusted Shops IDs

Do you have a multi-shop, for example to sell your products in different languages? Then you will be using multiple Trusted Shops IDs. Here you can find out how you can configure your shop individually with multiple Trusted Shops IDs.

The prerequisite for configuring a shop with multiple languages is that you have added additional languages in your Opencart backend. You can find out how to store other languages in Opencart here.

Once you have set up your voice shops, you can switch to the Trusted Shops plugin. In the upper tab select the shop for which the Trusted Shops plugin should be configured.

Now enter another Trusted Shops ID and configure - independent of your main shop - all your sales channels as described above according to your individual needs.
