How can I benefit from the activation date of sending delay?

With the eTrusted review platform from Trusted Shops, you can send review invites completely automated and at the perfect time. With the option to submit an activation date of sending delay, you can control the time your review invites are sent out even more and thus adapt it to more use cases.

In this article we explain what the use cases are, how the activation date of sending delay works and how you can transmit such a date.

When to use the activation date of sending delay?

In the following use cases, it is particularly useful to transmit the activation date of sending delay to eTrusted together with the event:

  • A booked experience such as a concert, an event or a car test drive is to be reviewed.
  • The purchase of a product such as a custom-made item or a piece of furniture with a longer delivery time is to be reviewed.
  • A product is to be reviewed that is currently not in stock and therefore has a deviating delivery time.
  • The purchase of a download or other immediately usable product is to be reviewed.
  • An experience is to be reviewed that extends over a longer period of time, such as a term contract, a trial subscription or a test phase.

However, you can also send an activation date of sending delay for all other use cases in order to be able to react best if something about the delivery changes. In addition, your sending delay does not have to match different scenarios if you generally send a date with all events. This way you always invite your customers at the perfect time.

How does the activation date of sending delay work?

Automated review invites are scheduled via an event you submit (e.g. CHECKOUT) and sent to your customers after the set sending delay has elapsed. The sending delay is set to 7 days by default and can be adjusted by editing the active invite rule.

Because of the sending delay, the review invite is not sent immediately, but only after the set time has elapsed. By defining and submitting an activation date of sending delay, you have full control over when exactly the review invite is sent. In this case, the sending delay only takes effect after the transmitted date has been reached. It is added as an additional delay.

In this illustration, you can see how the automated dispatch of your invites behaves with and without a transmitted activation date of sending delay:

The illustration shows the following sequence:

  1. You transmit an event to eTrusted that is triggered by a transaction on the customer side, such as reaching the thank you page (CHECKOUT).
  2. We check if you submit an activation date of sending delay.
    • If NO, the review invite is scheduled as usual and is sent out after the set sending delay period has elapsed (e.g. after 7 days).
    • If YES, we move on to the next check.
  3. We check whether you have activated the function to apply the activation date of sending delay.
    • If NO, the review invite is scheduled as usual and is sent out after the set sending delay period has elapsed (e.g. after 7 days).
    • If YES, the review invite will be scheduled for the date submitted.
  4. eTrusted waits for the transmitted date to be reached.
  5. As soon as the transmitted date is reached, the set sending delay comes into effect (e.g. 7 days).
  6. After the set sending delay period has elapsed, the review invite is sent.

How to set up the activation date of sending delay?

In order for you to benefit from the flexibility of the activation date of sending delay, two adjustments are necessary:

  • Setting up the transmission of the date
  • Activating the application of the date

How can I transmit a date?

There are three options for transmitting the activation date of sending delay - depending on your use of our products. You can set up the date via your shop software plugin, via your manual integration of the Trustbadge or via the eTrusted API.

The setup via shop software plugin:
Many of our shop software plugins allow you to set up the sending delay activation date. If you have integrated your Trusted Shops products via a plugin, please first check the appropriate integration instructions to see if your plugin supports the setup.

The setup via your manual Trustbadge integration:
If your plugin does not support the setup or if you have integrated your Trustbadge manually, you can do the setup in the Trustbadge code. The Parameter im Trustbadge-Code, where the sending delay activation date can be defined as a value is the following line of code:

  <span id="tsCheckoutOrderEstDeliveryDate">2021-01-01</span>

Find this line of code in the code of your manual trustbadge integration. Instead of the date, insert a variable that provides the desired date from your systems.

The setup via Application Programming Interface (API):
If you have programming skills, the setup via API is available. You can read how the setup is done in the chapter "Events" in our Developer Center. In the developer documentation and in the code, you will find the parameter for the activation date of sending delay under the short name "estimatedDeliveryDate":

How can I activate the function?

After you have successfully set up the transmission of the date, the second step is to activate the function. This separate action allows you to deactivate the application of the date at any time, if required, so that only the defined sending delay is applied instead.

To apply the dates transmitted with events, activate the function "Apply activation date of sending delay" under „Invites“ > „Invite Rules“:

By default, the application of the activation date of sending delay is only active if you have already set up its transmission. In all other cases, the function must be activated first.

What happens if the function is active and no date is transmitted?

If you do not want to send a sending delay activation date with all events, this is not a problem. Our system checks for each individual event, as described above, whether a date has been transmitted or not and whether this date should be applied according to the active invite rule or not.

In other words, if you have activated the function and do not send a date, the review invite will be sent as usual after the specified sending delay has elapsed. The same sending delay is also applied to events with a date, but in this case the system first waits for the transmitted date to be reached.
